Today’s business relations and value chains know no boundaries. The involvement and integration into global supply chains open up tremendous opportunities for producing countries to develop and diversify their economy. However, human rights, social and environmental standards are regularly undermined within these complex supply networks. Globally, the response to this situation is a greater focus on sustainability as well as human rights and environmental due diligence. Two such significant responses are the new German Act on Corporate Due Diligence Obligations in Supply Chains passed in July 2021, and the proposal for EU's Directive on Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence adopted in February 2022.
In Vietnam, human rights and environmental due diligence (HREDD) is a rather new concept, for which broad awareness is not yet available. Often, the term is used interchangeably with “compliance” and “social responsibility”, and to many stakeholders, the term of “responsible business conduct” is usually preferred to HREDD. It is, therefore, important to create expertise and understanding the concept of HREDD (as per UNGP and OECD Guidelines) and to draw a link to the realities in Vietnam including typical risks, impacts and current responsible business practice.
Responsible Business Helpdesk (RBH), hosted and managed by the VCCI with technical and financial support from the German government, is going to be a local helpdesk that inform, raise awareness, and advise companies in Vietnam on standards and requirements of HREDD and network them with local service providers in the country.
To capacitate both RBH staff as well as a relevant number of service providers that the RBH can refer to, when being approached by companies in the future, the RBH Vietnam will organize the first HREDD RBH Training of Trainers (ToT) in Hanoi in two days 18-19 Apil 2023. The training is designed and delivered by a small team of international and local Consultants (in English language). You can expect an interactive format with plenty of opportunity for small group work, your contributions and your questions.
If you are interested in participating in the training and being included in the RBH’s directory of service providers, please register by contacting RBH’s coordinator, Ms. Pham Thi Phuong Thao (0906111622, thaoptp@vcci.com.vn.
Tentative training agenda is attached for your reference.
Looking forward to welcoming you at the event.
